EOpedia:Editors Guide

From EOpedia

The aim of EOpedia is to provide a source of knowledge for the Earth observation community. It should be the first point of contact for people looking for information about remote sensing and earth observation information. The articles shall provide a brief overview of each topic and links to resources worth further reading. It is not the intention to provide lengthy articles which can compete in completeness with Wikipedia or other sources. At least not in the first place. For now, it is more important to increase the number of articles. Later, after covering a respectable number of topics, the quality and the completeness will be improved. The focus of the articles will continue to be on the Earth observation community. The articles still do not need to cover the whole topic. Instead, it is good if high quality articles available on the internet are referenced. It is also okay to leave out or just describe briefly points which are not relevant for the EO community.

Objectives and Rules

Each article in EOpedia shall contain a concise introduction and the most useful information people are often looking for. For detailed information links shall be provided instead of including the information in the article. If content from other pages is cited, those sources need to be referenced. Wikipedia has put together exceptionally good rules and guidelines for content creator. If questions arise those documentations shall be consulted to clarify questions not explicitly mentioned in this document.

Article Content

Each article shall start with a concise introduction into the topic which provides the main facts to the reader. Further details shall be provided in topic specific subsections. The two sections ‘Useful Resources’ and ‘References’ shall conclude the article. Useful Resources, as the name indicates lists sources which are worth reading and contain further information about the topic. The References contain the citations used in the article. Both do not need to be present, but as mentioned in the introduction, EOpedia provides useful sources, thus usually every article will have those sections. How an article can be structured can be seen in this example article.

Becoming an Editor

In contrast to Wikipedia anonymous editing of articles is not allowed. Also, it is not possible to create an account on your own. This is not to stop you providing content to EOpedia, but hinder others to delete content, add incorrect information or otherwise disturbing the functioning of EOpedia. If you like to participate, add, and enhance content then you are welcome. In this case, read the Request an Account. Before starting to provide content for EOpedia it is important to familiarise yourself with the details of Copyright & License.
